Standard Production
The Partagás 898 is a cigar steeped in tradition and marked by an air of exclusivity, cherished by seasoned aficionados for its nuanced complexity and masterful craftsmanship. Its name, derived from the distinctive arrangement of 25 cigars in three rows (8-9-8), has long been a symbol of the Partagás brand’s dedication to premium cigar-making, dating back to its introduction in the early 20th century.
Exclusivity truly defines the Partagás 898. While many Cuban cigars appeal to a broad audience, the 898 is a connoisseur’s choice—a niche offering that resonates with the most discerning and experienced smokers. Its Dalia vitola, also known as Lonsdale, with its subtly tapered, elegant form, delivers a focused and refined smoking experience. It is a cigar treasured by those who seek the delicate interplay of flavor and craftsmanship.
This particular cigar, from a June 2024 box, opens with a pronounced and earthy aroma, enriched by the classic notes of cedar and leather. As the smoke evolves, more intricate flavors of roasted coffee, sweet spices, and a hint of citrus weave into the profile, adding layers of complexity. In the final third, deeper notes of cocoa and toasted almonds take center stage, with a peppery spice—hallmark of the Partagás line—becoming increasingly prominent, a reminder of the cigar’s youthful vigor. The construction is flawless, with a perfect draw and even burn, a testament to the cigar’s superior craftsmanship. While already a delightful smoke, the 898 promises even greater rewards with time, its full potential to be unlocked after years of careful aging in the humidor.
This is a cigar meant for a slow, reflective indulgence, where each puff reveals new dimensions of flavor. With its rich history, exclusivity, and layered complexity, the Partagás 898 stands as a prized gem in the world of cigars, coveted by those who appreciate the highest levels of artistry in cigar-making.
