From a Dec.20 25x Cab.
Marvellous looks, fabulous cold draw on tea leaves & light pepper notes.
Divine from the first puff, with delightfull creamy cappucino & herbal notes along the first third. On to deeper, slightly more concentrated earthy notes of baking spices in the second third, without loosing its creamy, mild DNA. Last third getting a touch salty, but I had to puff harder towards the end.
On the downside: terrible burn with many re-lightening needed, and questionable construction with a wrapper that started unwinding on the last third + too wide of a ring imho.
2 hours+ smoke for whom enjoys taking one's time to savour a wonderful vitola.
Solid 8/10 that would have reached a higher score with a better burn.
Will revisit with pleasure in the coming months.
When lighting up this HOYO DE MONTERREY Serie Le Hoyo San Juan, we all expected a milder cigar, and were pleasantly surprised by the intense flavours that are not normally experienced with the other vitolas of this house. Toasted, sweet, citrus, cocoa... make for an interesting cigar. We firmly believe that with time, this Serie Le Hoyo San Juan will round out and refine its flavours, making it even more interesting.
Another day and another cigar coming from one of my usual haunts - The Tom Tom Cigar lounge on Elizabeth Street. It’s a first time smoke of the HdM Le Hoya de San Juan. An impressive looking cigar and a size I generally don’t smoke in the morning. It has a beautiful draw (punch cut) and after a shaky start developed a really nice burn. The flavours are light, creamy that did intensify after the first half. My love for the range now available within the HdM brand is really growing and I am now really stumped as to which one I prefer. I still think it’s the Epicure Especial as I prefer a smaller ring gauge but honestly I love them all. I am going to buy a few boxes across the range for sure!
