Another day and another cigar - though today I have the pleasure of smoking a Punch Serie D’Oro No. 2 Limited Edition from 2013. So a doubly impressive cigar that has over a decade of age but it also represents the very first Limited Edition from the Punch Brand. Cigar Aficionado rated this cigar an impressive 97 after 8 years of aging so it has quite a reputation. This cigar comes in the perfect size of 52 ring gauge by 5 1/2 inches and is known as a Campana vitola - the 2 bands in red, gold and black only heighten the beautiful appearance of the dark chocolate coloured wrapper. And Like most of the Punch range this cigar is considered Medium strength. The cigar started with a surprising level of cedar/pine that left me with a real sense of freshness though that only lasted a handful of draws. The retro hale was smooth though you could feel the medium strength reverberate on your palate. The cigar draw was exceptional though the burn for the first half was quite lop sided. By the final third and with a little help I got it back on track. The aroma was lovely and intense with a real sweetness to the floral tones. By the half way stage I really started to feel the intensity build with dark chocolate flavours pasting my palate. And by the final third these flavours were meet by spice and earthy flavours though the spice never felt too much. For a relatively short cigar I was amazed by the diversity of flavours and flavour journey I was able to experience. What a treat 🙌
This is the only EL for Punch
Well balanced and constructed cigar
Beautiful dark wrap
When you light the cigar you will think it going to be full harsh cigar, however it is not
Nice calm not too much of smoke and slow burn
Full of flavors and the best part was the 2nd half
