Another day, another cigar – this time I had the pleasure of enjoying the Trinidad Vigia, a cigar that never fails to impress. With a 54 ring gauge and 4 1/3 inches in length, this Cuban beauty is compact but packs a lot into its smaller size.

As expected from Trinidad, the wrapper and construction were flawless. The wrapper itself was smooth with a slight sheen, hinting at the care put into its production. Upon lighting, I was greeted by a lovely blend of nutty and rich, earthy flavors that set the tone for a great smoke. The draw was spot on, offering just the right amount of resistance, while the retrohale was smooth and balanced.

As the cigar progressed, the flavor profile remained consistent through the first two thirds, dominated by those rich, nutty notes. However, the final third took me by surprise, with distinct coffee flavors emerging and adding a new level of complexity. The intensity also ramped up slightly, but not so much that it became overwhelming—just enough to keep the experience exciting.

Personally, I find keeping my Trinidad cigars on the drier side improves the smoking experience. Given their often tight construction, a slightly drier cigar ensures a smoother draw and lets the flavors shine. This certainly held true for the Vigia.

All in all, this was a fantastic cigar. My only critique would be the price, but that’s the cost of enjoying Cuban cigars these days. Despite the higher price point, the Trinidad Vigia is well worth it for those special occasions or when you’re simply in the mood for an exceptional smoke.

TRINIDAD - Vigia - Petit Robusto - 2021

I continue my exploration halfway through a box of 12 petit robustos from April 2021

Very seductive cold draw, with a hint of shortbread.
From the first puffs, the draw is incredibly smooth, offering flavors of dried fruits, caramelized almonds, and rich marmalade.
The second third evolves towards hazelnut and coffee beans while maintaining its panorama of dried fruits, with those surprising almost "H.Upmannesque" shortbread notes on the palate.
The strength clearly increases in the last third, almost giving the impression of an uppercut as my heart rate accelerates.
A delightful moment.

The draw on this example was just perfect. Despite the freshness, the cigar showed some pretty tasty, nutty and chocolaty flavours. The burn required several adjustments, probably because of the freshness. Considering the new price of about 50€ in Germany, I am probably not going to increase my stock here. Generally I am a fan of Trinidad nonetheless.

How come no one has reviewed this cigar? It is the staple cigar of more and more of us. Rich, well made, deep tobacco flavours and perfect with a cup of afternoon tea. I also find new smokers love it and I don’t think it has ever let me down.
