My Biography

A retired lawyer now running an antiques shop. A pipe smoker since the age of 12 now relishing in Cuban and non-Cuban hand rolled cigars.

What was the first cigar you ever smoked?

The first Cuban was a Punch Coronation and it has remained my 'go-to' cigar ever since.

Which is your desert-island cigar?

The Cohiba Siglo VI.

What is the worst cigar you’ve ever smoked?

Of the Cubans, the Guantanamera I suppose.

What is your greatest cigar-related memory?

Spending an hour with Henry Kissinger at the US Embassy in London.

What is your favourite cigar brand?

I am pretty loyal to Punch.

What is your favourite cigar accessory?

My grandfather's silver mounted leather 4 stick cigar case.

What is your favourite cigar shop?

That's unfair as all the major London shops have their own individual appeal. However, not being based in or even near London, my loyalty is to the Cuban Cigar Club, Newcastle upon Tyne.

What is your favourite lounge?

The Cuban Cigar Club, Newcastle upon Tyne (when it gets back into gear after a premises move and, of course, after the devastation of Covid lockdown).

What is your favourite method of ignition?

One of my Dunhill rollagas butane lighters.

What is your favourite cut?

I almost always V cut but with 55 plus ring gauge I would probably slice with my cigar scissors.
