The Diplomáticos Leal, a new Edición Regional release from Habanos S.A., was previewed at a splendid launch event in Havana on Dec. 8, and it is due shortly to become available for purchase at La Casa del Habano and other cigar stores in Cuba. Originally scheduled for release in 2021, it is the seventh Edición Regional release specifically for the Cuban market.
The cigar comes in the Duke vitola, a robusto extra measuring 5 1/2 inches (140mm) long with a ring gauge of 54, with 10,000 numbered boxes of ten having been released - making for a total of 100,000 cigars. The original vitola debuted in 2009 with the Edición Limitada release of the Romeo y Julieta Dukes, and it has also been used for a number of other Edición Regional releases since that date.
The Diplomáticos Leal is named after Dr. Eusebio Leal, the internationally renowned Cuban historian, who very sadly passed away in 2020. He was, throughout his lifetime, fondly known throughout Havana as "The Grey Man" on account of his distinctive loose-fitting grey suits, and was perhaps best known as the director of the restoration of Habana Vieja (Old Havana) which, in 1982, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
