An Ambassador Answers: Obaid Ur Rahman

Cigar Keep's global community requires legendary figures from all over the world to join us in spreading the news and championing the cause of togetherness. This time we speak to our latest ambassador, Obaid Ur Rahman.

What kickstarted your passion for cigars?

Back in 2002, I was living and working in the Caribbean and a friend recommended taking a trip down to Cuba. So, my wife and I went to Havana for a weekend. Until that time, I was just a social cigar smoker with no clear passion, however, that first trip changed my whole perspective. I still remember my first cigar in Havana was a Cuaba Salomones and the first factory I visited was the iconic Real Fabrica de Tabacos Partagas. Since then, there has been no looking back and I have gone back repeatedly not only for the love of cigars but for the lovely people there too.

What is your favourite cigar?

I dont have one favourite as I have paired cigars with the time of the day, the occasion and the sentiments I'm holding. So many permutations define what cigar I shall have at a particular moment. However, RJ Wide Churchill, Partagas P2 and Siglo VI are a few that come to mind.

Do you have a favourite lounge or terrace to smoke in?

Nothing compares to having a Habanos in the veranda of Hotel Nacional in Havana.

What is your most memorable cigar moment?

Again, there are too many memorable moments to list down. However, visiting Cohiba's 50th Anniversario Gala night is something that stands out amongst all memories.

What cigar do you think is underrated?

I have always said Robainas is an underrated brand. Knowing Carlos Robaina personally and hearing about the rich history of the brand from my dear friend. I think this brand deserves a lot more attention than it currently recieves.
